In this course, various perspectives on seeing are explored and examined. Seeing is analyzed in a range of perspectives from mechanical, physiological, and neurological to psychological and perceptual by discussing seeing as a sense, as watching, as observation, as detection and analysis, as metaphors, as images, as perception, and as awareness. Additionally,  students read a book that has been adapted into a movie or TV show and conduct a comparative analysis between their mental imagery during reading and the director’s perspective.
At the end of the semester, they deliver a video clip or a storyboard that demonstrates a fictional world where living beings see the world differently than human beings. The world they design should be introduced by showing how the difference in the way of seeing changes the biology of the beings, their environment, architecture, objects,  and the experiences of watching and observation, as well as language, metaphors, images, and perception.
This course is designed as a speculative design course to explore the relationship between seeing and visual perception. The aim of this homework is to get an insight into the importance of seeing various aspects of design.
